Careers Convention
On Saturday 26th November 2011, twenty four speakers came into School to talk to 5th formers and L6 pupils about their careers. Of the delegates, five were OGs who had very kindly offered to “give something back” to School: they must have enjoyed their time at Gresham’s! Careers covered ranged from the traditional (law, police, armed forces, medicine, banking) to the more “modern” areas of marketing, media and graphic design. The Careers Department is always looking for UK-based practitioners in the following areas to help at the Convention or offer careers advice. The areas are: professional sport, hospitality, construction, property, art and photography based careers and social work. More urgent is the need for work experience contacts (all career areas but particularly engineering). Now, more than ever before, pupils need experience of the world of work. They must develop vital employability skills alongside qualifications to help them secure employment in an increasingly challenging and competitive working environment. We would particularly welcome help from lady OGs.
Work Experience
We are trying to build up a bank of contact for work experience/shadowing for committed and focused A level and IB students. Although work experience is valuable for all students, there are two areas we are keen to concentrate on: prospective Oxbridge, medical and veterinary applicants and the encouragement of pure science as a degree course and career option. We would welcome comments, suggestions, contacts and offers of help in any of these areas.
More information can be found on the School website.
