A new look for Tallis

A new look for Tallis

18 Apr 2008

Alumni of Tallis might be pleasantly surprised by its new and improved demeanor, the result of an ongoing three year campaign on behalf of the Gresham's Holt Foundation to improve and modernise boarding accommodation.

The project saw the house equipped with a new roof and new windows, in addition to receiving vital upgrades to the heating and plumbing systems and undergoing a major internal refit. Tallis boys now benefit from a brand new central kitchen, and can look forward to IT and study suites and a freshly redecorated interior in the near future.

Originally conceived as an exclusively upper sixth boarding house, Tallis was deemed the ‘show house’ of choice during the sixties, with Headmaster Bruce-Lockhart enthusiastically leading prospective parents around the school's newest building, commending the bright and spacious rooms and modern décor.

While today’s Tallis still retains a strong flavour of its sixties charm, the recently implemented changes will vastly improve the quality of life for the boys who live there. It is pivotal to ensure that accommodation is not only structurally upgraded and improved, but things like freshly painted walls, comfortable and contemporary furnishings and fresh and updated decorations ensure that the houses are welcoming and homely places to live.
